School Resumption in Delta State now January 18

The State Government has modified and changed the resumption date for public and private primary and secondary schools in the state for the second term academic session to January 18 after the increase in COVID19 cases in the state.

Following the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the had earlier ordered schools to resume academic activities on January 11.

But a statement by Mr. Patrick Ukah, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, said on Friday that schools are now going to reopen on Jan. 18.

Since the outbreak of the second wave, Delta and other states have registered spikes in the number of COVID-19 positive cases.


With the change of date, Ukah said, boarders will return to schools on Sunday, January 17, 2021, for the second term.


The statement noted that on Monday, January 18, 2021, classes will fully begin.

The commissioner also announced that on Wednesday January 20, all schools would begin resumption assessments.

He added that with the new word, the resumption assessments would be part of their continuous evaluation.


The declaration ordered parents and guardians to stick strictly to the new dates by training the pupils and students for the resumption of classes.

However, Ukah apologised for the change in the resumption date to parents, students and stakeholders.
