Ralf Rangnick has been Appointed as Manchester United’s interim manager.

Ralf Rangnick has been named as Manchester United’s interim manager until the end of the Premier League season, just eight days after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired.

The 63-year-old German joins from Lokomotiv Moscow, where he was the director of sports and development and will succeed caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

He will then join the club as a consultant for two years.

The club’s football director, John Murtough, said: “Ralf Rangnick is regarded as one of Europe’s most innovative and respected coaches.

“He was our top choice for an interim manager, owing to the invaluable leadership and technical skills he will bring to the table as a result of his nearly four decades of management and coaching experience.

“Everyone at the club is excited to work with him during the upcoming season, as well as for the next two years in his advisory role.”

Solskjaer was fired after United’s 4-1 loss to Watford earlier this month, their seventh defeat in 13 games in all competitions and a drop to eighth place in the Premier League table.

Carrick, who has presided over a Champions League win over Villarreal and a Premier League draw at Chelsea, where he benched Cristiano Ronaldo, will serve as interim manager until Rangnick’s work visa is finalized.

According to Rangnick: “I’m thrilled to be joining Manchester United and am committed to helping the club have a successful season.

“The squad is talented and well-balanced in terms of youth and experience. For the next six months, my sole focus will be on assisting these players in realizing their full potential, both individually and collectively.

“Aside from that, I’m looking forward to providing consulting services to the club to help them achieve their long-term goals.”
