Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said James had carnal knowledge of the woman while performing spiritual deliverance for her at the command headquarters in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday.

“James from Ibadan, Oyo State, came to Agbabu village via Ore, claiming to be a prophet and claiming that the holy spirit directed him to have a three-day holy ghost revival in a village church,” she said.

“The prophet claimed the next day that he had seen a vision about a 22-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant and told her to stay behind after the programme.

“Under the guise of delivering her from an evil spirit, he took the pregnant lady into one of the mission house’s rooms and had carnal knowledge of her.” The perpetrator admitted to the crime.”

The PPRO stated that the suspect would be charged in court soon.

Although James admitted to having sex with the victim, he denied rapping her.

“I had sex with her, but it was not rape; I did not rape her,” he said. I used to go there every time I needed to be revived. But, to be honest, I’m not sure what possessed me to act in that manner. It was the devil’s handiwork.”

In a related development, Samuel, a medical doctor, was arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old patient.

According to our source, the doctor allegedly assaulted the victim on October 22, 2021, while she was admitted to his Calabar clinic for three days.

Samuel had asked the victim to remove her clothes while examining her and had assaulted her in the process, according to .

Samuel sexually assaulted the teenager throughout her stay in the hospital, according to James Ibor, the principal counsel for the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, who petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, about the matter.

Ibor urged the police to investigate the case and ensure that justice was served in a petition dated November 9, 2021.

“According to our client, Dr Samuel led her into his consulting room and instructed her to completely undress, but when she hesitated, he insisted and said that all doctors who examine or check a patient with difficulty in breathing require the patient to fully undress for proper examination,” according to the petition.

“He then aided her in removing her clothing.” He then placed a stethoscope on her chest several times, then dropped it after a few minutes and leaned against her, groping her breast while moaning.

“The assault went on for the entire three days she was in the hospital.” Sir, we trust that you will use your good offices to investigate this case in the interests of public safety and justice.”

However, according to our source, the suspect was apprehended by police on Wednesday.

Irene Ugbo, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said she was unaware of the incident because she had just returned from a trip outside the state.

When she returned to her office on Friday, she promised to find out.
