Problems in APC NWC widens as vice chairmen accuse Adamu of blackmail
The problem in the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress(APC) took a new turn on Tuesday as two National Vice Chairmen of the party accused National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu of rendering the organ redundant.
The National Vice Chairman, North West, Salihu Mohd Lukman, and the National Vice Chairman, South West, Isaacs Kekemeke, issued a joint statement titled “APC and the need for vigilance: urgent call for intervention” in Abuja on Tuesday, claiming that the two-month-old committee is in disarray.
The pair urged elders and well-intentioned party leaders and members to summon the National Chairman before his actions cause irreversible damage to the party.
The Vice-Chairmen accused the National Chairman of making decisions without consulting or obtaining approval from the committee, as the party’s constitution requires.
They also claimed that Adamu uses President Muhammadu Buhari’s name to blackmail members of the NWC into accepting his decisions.
“We are compelled to make this statement as a result of the serial postponement of scheduled National Working Committee (NWC) meetings twice within 48 hours,” the statement reads. We are convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is a premeditated attempt to impose a fait accompli on the NWC on key issues affecting our great party.
“Within two months of the new leadership of our great party, the APC, led by His Excellency, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, the NWC, the organ of the party vested with the power of managing day-to-day affairs, including implementing decisions of the National Executive Committee (NEC), as provided in Article 13.4 of the APC Constitution, has been rendered redundant.
