On Sunday, presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said that President Muhammad Buhari had put an end to corruption in Nigeria.

Shehu said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had entrenched corruption during its sixteen-year rule between 1999 and 2015 as a guest on TVC’s programme, but Buhari stopped the kind of corruption common under the PDP.
Under President Buhari, this government has stopped the corruption of the country. People will, as I said, withdraw money from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), place it on the table and just go home. You can’t do that in the daytime today in Nigeria and take money from the treasury, and nothing will happen. Senior officials were locked up and sent away from the office. People were incarcerated, governors, whatever,” he said.
However, Shehu added that President Buhari is still clearing the nation of many crimes allegedly perpetrated during his tenure in power by the PDP, adding that Nigerians have also not forgotten.
“The opposition has the right to say that we ought to be thrown out of office,” he said. That’s what democracy is like. This is why the opposition needs to persuade the public…. Some members of the nation think it is too soon to wash away the horrible and horrific records of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
It’s too early to forget about what they have done to ruin this country. It is always the PDP that used the national treasury as though it belonged to one or two persons….’
Meanwhile, Nigerians have been assured by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it will be more strategic ahead of the general elections in 2023.
In a Sunday interview with Vanguard, a member of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) made this known.
The member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, noted that there would be no repeat of the factors that worked against the party in 2019.
He noted that at the ward, provincial, state, and national levels, the party is holding stakeholder meetings to get things right ahead of the 2023 polls.
However, the chief of the PDP stressed that in the last general election, particularly the presidential election, the opposition party fared well.
