Mohammed was fired just four months after he took control of the agency.

Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, said in a statement on Wednesday that the president has approved the appointment of Fatima Waziri Azi to replace Mohammed.

Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, recommended Fatima Waziri for the job.

The minister, he said, expressed the “urgent need for the Ministry to increase existing capacity in the NAPTIP to achieve its Key Result Areas as identified.”

According to Hajiya Sadiya, Fatima Waziri Azi’s recommendation was based on her “pedigree, vast experience, and proven track record to drive the agency forward and consolidate on what has been achieved thus far,”

The new was described as a former Head of Department of Public Law at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, a Women’s Rights advocate, a campaigner against domestic and sexual violence, and an expert in Rule of Law, according to the statement.

On May 27, 2021, Mohammed swapped his position as Honourable Federal Commissioner for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) with Mrs Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, the former Director-General of NAPTIP.
