President Muhammadu Buhari has made it clear that he will only support All Progressives Congress(APC) nominated candidates.
This was stated in a letter on Wednesday Signed by from Garba Shehu, sighed by Ejes Gist Newspaper.
In a statement, the Presidency said that President Muhammadu Buhari “remains a “disciplined soldier” of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and will, in all upcoming elections, support only those candidates fielded by the party and no other.”
“This is a warning to decamped party members and some others who are still in court fighting official APC candidates that they are on their own and that nobody outside the party tent should link what they are doing to President Buhari,” the statement reads.
The President would like to be quoted as saying that he was given the high office of president by God’s grace, who used the APC as a tool to help him win a historic election in 2015. In 2019, he received a larger majority of the vote.
After 16 years of the Fourth Republic, a government that was not from the PDP took office for the first time with a sizable majority.
“I will not betray or undermine my party by supporting candidates other than those of the APC,” he says repeatedly.
“This assertion is not directed at any specific candidate. Our position, however, is unambiguous: The President will only support and campaign for candidates who have been nominated by the All Progressives Candidates, or APC. We do, however, welcome other parties’ support for our candidates at all levels.
The President promises to support the party’s efforts to impose order, synchronisation, and coordination at all levels.
Additionally, he advises those in authority in and around the Presidential Villa as well as everyone else engaging in casual conversation to refrain from making statements that could end up damaging the party and the administration, giving the opposition a tool to use against them in the upcoming elections.
