He explained that the manhunt was carried out in collaboration with operatives from other security agencies, hunters, and vigilantes, and that it led the team to the Oke-Ere Hills, where the robbery suspects were holed up.

“The two arrested suspects were taken to the Odo-Ere police station. An enraged mob of residents gathered outside the station, demanding that the two suspects be released for lynching.

All attempts by the police to appease the mob failed; the mob became violent, lynching one Insp Bamisaye Gbenga and injuring PC Sunday Alechenu.

Aya also claimed that a male and a female were maimed in an attempt to disperse the mob, and that both died in the hospital while receiving treatment.

He also stated that the mob set fire to a portion of the station.

He quoted Idris Babban, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi, as condemning the act of lawlessness committed by Ode-Ere youths and urging them not to take the law into their own hands.

He promised that once the investigation was completed, the suspects would be arraigned and brought to justice. (NAN)
