The Divisional Police Headquarters along Asaba/Lagos Expressway by the Bridge Head was invaded by mobs suspected to be cultists at early hours of Saturday 20th October 2018 leaving DPO, DCO and lot others seriously wounded.
According a source close to the Police who disclosed that the mob invaded the station at the exact time officers and men of the division were busy intercepting a robbery gang on the run from Onitsha heading towards Asaba.
He added that a certain suspect in the custody who was arrested recently in connection with a robbery case was about to be rescue by his gangs who mobilized youths to invade the station.
The DPO according to the source in his tactics alongside his men over powered the mob who took to their heels for escape while one suspect Prince Harrison were arrested and had confessed to the crime. The source further disclosed that the Harrison came in pretence to have come to bail the suspect in custody while he entered the DPO’s office to inquire why the Police detained his boy, clamped hands on the DPOs chest, tore his clothes, scattered his office and try to made away with documents related to the suspect before he was nabbed.
As at the time of filling this report, efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in person were abortive but in a telephone conversation, he assured the general public not to panic as the Police will not leave any stone unturn to ravel the perpetrators and will officially address the press.
