Police Dpo Shoots Amotekun Operative For Arresting Fulani Herdsmen Who Destroyed Farm

DPO allegedly shoots Amotekun operative in Oyo for detaining Fulani herdsmen

An Amotekun operative was fired by Adepoju Ayodeji, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ile-Igbon Division of the Surulere Local Government Area of Ogbomoso in Oyo State.

The man shot an Amotekun operative on Friday to arrest Fulani herdsmen who allegedly destroyed a cassava farm.

Col. Olayanju Olayinka (retd.), the Amotekun state commander, who confirmed this to reporters in Ibadan on Friday, said the police chief shot the victim in near proximity.

Amotekun operatives received a distress call from farmers to come and arrest some Fulani herdsmen who had ruined their farms, SaharaReporters heard.

After the arrest of the Fulani herdsmen, the DPO ordered the arrest of the Amotekun operatives who carried out the arrest.

When the leaders of the Amotekun party, led by Olatunji Mayowa and Jenyo Isiaka, arrived at the station to secure the release of the arrested Amotekun staff, our correspondent said the DPO had no business arresting anyone.

According to a source, while one of the Amotekun operatives was speaking at the station with the police officer on duty, the DPO stepped out of his office, shot and chased them away.

“The source said, “The DPO rushed out of his office, snatched an AK 47 rifle from one of his officers, and sprayed the Amotekun operatives with bullets as one of the Amotekun leaders was talking with the police station guard.

One of Amotekun’s men, Job Adewale, was hit in the right leg at close range and his right ribs were broken by the bullet, too. As they were trying to move the wounded Adewale, the DPO reloaded the rifle and fired more bullets at other workers.
