Police Confirms Total Number of Persons In Stampede

The Rivers Police Command has revealed that 31 people died in a stampede on Saturday in Port Harcourt during an outreach programme organized by a new generation church, Kings Assembly.

Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the event to Ejes Gist Newspaper.

Iringe-Kok told Ejes Gist Newspaper that the church, which is located in GRA, Rivers capital, had invited members of the public to an event where it would distribute gift items, including food, with its members.

She explained that the event was hosted in the Port Harcourt Polo Club, which was larger to accommodate the expected throng, which included the poor.

According to the PPRO, the stampede began when those who had gathered tried to force their way into the stadium, killing 31 people.
