Peter Obi Career
He became a member of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2003 and ran for governor of Anambra State. He and Chris Ngige were both running for governor of the state. Despite the fact that Ngige was declared the winner, Obi refused to give up and turned to the court. After a three-year battle, the court overturned the judgment, and Obi was appointed Governor on March 17, 2006. His first few days in the office were brief. Following Obi’s impeachment in November of 2006, his deputy, Virginia Etiaba, took over as governor. Obi, on the other hand, refused to give up on justice and the rule of law. Andy Uba was elected Governor of Anambra by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria’s general election in 2007. On June 14th, 2007, the Supreme Court agreed that Obi’s tenure in office had not expired and reinstated him.
He was then given the opportunity to finish his first term in office. He was re-elected in 2010, and he was given a second four-year term, which concluded in 2014. He is thought to have done a great job for Anambra, since the infrastructure and economy have both developed greatly under his administration. During his rule, Anambra became the first state in Sub-Saharan Africa to implement sub-Sovereign wealth savings. I left the equivalent of $500 million in investments, local and international money, and $156 million in dollar-denominated bonds, at a period when many other governors were leaving massive debts. Ambassadors and High Commissioners from notable nations such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, the European Union, South Africa, Belgium, Israel, the Netherlands, and Canada, among others, visited the State for the first time. Anambra was effectively a pariah state before I arrived, having been blacklisted by the Diplomatic Corps and international development partners. He also advocated for funding intended for any intervention project to be sent directly to the point of usage. Willie Obiano took over as his successor.

He was Fidelity Bank Plc’s youngest chairman. Following the 2015 general election, former President Goodluck Jonathan named him chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
On February 7, 2010, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Peter Obi the winner of the gubernatorial elections held on February 6, 2010, in which he defeated Professor Charles Soludo, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Obi went back to court, this time claiming that the four-year term he had won in the 2003 elections only began to run in March 2006, when he took office. On June 14, 2007, the Nigerian Supreme Court affirmed Obi’s claim and reinstated him in office. The election of Obi’s successor, Andy Uba, was invalidated by the Supreme Court on April 14, 2007, on the grounds that Obi’s four-year mandate should have continued uninterrupted until March 2010.
On March 15, 2006, the Court of Appeal overturned Ngige’s victory after nearly three years of litigation. On March 17, 2006, Obi was sworn in as President. He was impeached by the state house of assembly on November 2, 2006, after only seven months in office, and was replaced the next day by Virginia Etiaba, his deputy, who became Nigeria’s first female governor. Obi successfully appealed his impeachment and was re-instated as governor by the Court of Appeal in Enugu on February 9, 2007. Following the court verdict, Etiaba was given back his power.
