Prof. Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jr., the leader of the “CountryFirst Movement,” said the Tinubu campaign organization’s press release urging

“Mr. Peter Obi to call his supporters to order that falsehood and disinformation will not win election” reeked of mischief and obvious desperation because there is no question that the Peter Obi Team is profoundly issue-based, obviously factual, and unequivocal.

According to Nwaokobia, the Tinubu Campaign Organization is desperate to paint Mr. Peter Obi in a negative light, but it won’t stick, so their attempt to link all the lies floating around on social media to the Peter Obi Campaign is not only malicious.

According to him, this is 2022/2023 and the Redemptive Masses Movement won’t allow any fabrications against Mr. Peter Obi and Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed to flourish, unlike in 2014/2015 when lies and Tommy Rot were allowed to fester unchecked and unchallenged by the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign.

Mr. Peter Obi’s ideological, issue-based, and policy-driven peaceful ballot-based revolution will promptly respond to any information that aims to harm our Campaign and Movement.

“At no point has Mr. Peter Obi, his running mate Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, or the Labour Party given instructions or their approval to falsehood, malice, lies, and/or support to any information defaming other candidates as alleged by the Tinubu Campaign Organization,” the statement reads in part.

In fact, former governor Peter Obi is the candidate who is most polite and respectful of other people. He has consistently portrayed himself as a man of peace, civility, and decorum in his speeches, writings, and mobilisation efforts.

He has also instructed every lever and layer of his support groups and Campaign to engage in debates about issues rather than the persona and personalities of the opposing side.

Attempts to paint the Peter Obi Movement and Campaign in a foreboding hue will undoubtedly fail because truth will always triumph over lies.

A failed attempt was made by one of their canvassers, Mr. Sam Omatseye of The Nation Newspapers,to link the Peter Obi Movement and Campaign to the IPOB agitation in the press statement written by the Tinubu Campaign Organization.

There is no shadow of a doubt that those making the mudslinging accusations are professionals at it. May their mischief and desperation not taint the campaign’s promisingly deep focus on key issues.

May they fairly assess the populist redemptive movement that is sweeping our country as such and refrain from using the ethnicity argument because it will undoubtedly fail.

We ask that everyone makes the following issues the centre of the campaign now and when it officially launches in September: security, healthcare, education, economy, power and energy, infrastructure, job creation, human capacity and resource development, national cohesion based on equity, love, and fairness, food security, etc. And may the most deserving candidate triumph in February 2023.
