Parent of student to sweep school for 6 months

For storming her son’s school with thugs, a Magistrates’ Court in Ota, Ogun, on Wednesday sentenced , a 40-year-old housewife, a parent of a student to sweep Iju-Ebiye High School premises for six months.

Joshua was charged with conspiracy, assault, and breach of peace by the police.

Magistrate issued a ruling ordering the convict to sweep the school every day from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

He also ordered that the school create a log book for the inmate, in which she would record her daily activities for the next six months.

Shotayo offered Joshua the chance to pay a fine of N30,000 to the principal and the teacher.

He concluded that the prosecution had established beyond a reasonable doubt that Joshua is guilty of the accusation brought against her.

The defendant, whose address was withheld, pleaded not guilty to the accusation.

The prosecutor, Insp Cynthia Ejezie, had previously told the court that the convict, her son, and others at large committed the crime on March 11, 2021, around 2 p.m. at Iju-Ebiye High School in Ota.

According to Ejezie, the felon and her accomplices assaulted the school’s principal and health officer, injuring them.

She went on to say that they invaded and disrupted the school’s academic activities with thugs, which she said was likely to provoke a breach of peace.

The offence, according to the prosecution, violated sections 249(d), 355, and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
