According to Punch, the former terrorists were turned over to the Borno State Government in a covert ceremony that was originally scheduled for a later date but was postponed indefinitely by military authorities following the inauguration of the new COAS.
The ex-terrorists were turned over to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, who represented the state government at the event, according to army sources.
According to Punch, the official stated, “Today, the army turned over 1,009 Boko Haram insurgents to the Nigerian government (Wednesday).
It was done behind closed doors. Journalists were not to be allowed into the venue, according to our instructions.”
