Some witnesses said the accused woman was insane because she reportedly tried to stab another boy just metres away from where she killed Thomas.

The defendant is accused of stabbing her first victim in the arm along Mountain of Fire Road Okaka before killing her (Thomas).

According to one of the residents of Genesis Street, Panebi, the woman, who is believed to be from Enugu State, was well-known for preaching in the early hours of the morning along Okaka Road.

“But on this particular day (Tuesday), she was holding a Bible and began acting strangely by showing a dagger,” Panebi said. She pursued anyone she came across until she arrived at the victim’s home and violently broke the door down.

“She pulled the boy to the middle of the road and stabbed him three times,” says the witness. Angry young people on the street began hitting her with stones and planks before she collapsed. “The cops came to her aid.”

Modlyn, the deceased’s grandmother, said her grandson was in the house when he was accosted and allegedly murdered by the woman.

“I went shopping,” she said. I was already there when I heard that a madwoman was on the lookout for me and tried to kill me.

“I was perplexed as to why a lunatic would be on the lookout for me. To seek shelter, I dashed into my next-door neighbor’s home. While at the neighbour’s home, I heard a noise from neighbours that she had stabbed my grandson to death.”

A spokesman for Bayelsa Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the development.

He said the police authorities have the woman in custody and have arranged for extra security at the hospital to forestall the attempt to kill her on the hospital bed in revenge for the killing of the child.
