The Nigerian Correctional Service has released more names of some inmates who escaped during a jailbreak in the owerri region of Imo State by unknown gunmen.
According to the NCS, 48 of the 1,844 inmates who escaped from the Owerri Custodial Centre have been apprehended so far.
The following is an excerpt from a statement issued by the Service Headquarters in Abuja:
“The Centre has rescued 48 inmates who fled in the aftermath of the invasion, bringing the total number of inmates in detention to 84, including those who resisted the urge to flee during the attack.”
Following a recent invasion of the facility by gunmen believed to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network, peace has steadily returned to the Owerri Custodial Centre in Imo State, according to the statement (ESN).
NCS, on the other hand, released information of some escapees in a statement obtained by EJES GIST on Friday, while also declaring them wanted.
