Only Son Hacked To Death As Cult Groups Clash in Delta
Tuoyo, the only son of a single mother, was named as one of the casualties of a cult clash in Delta state.
Three other individuals in Egbokodo-Itsekiri, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, were also hacked to death by alleged cultists.
The incident was confirmed to have taken place on Wednesday night, January 27, after a bloody battle between various members of the cult.
Onome Onovwakpoyeya, spokesman for the State Police Command, who confirmed the incident, urged the public to provide timely and useful information on the activities of cultists and hoodlums in their vicinity in order to eradicate the killings on the board.
The police are cautious, but in order to combat the trend, individuals need to feed us with timely information,”The police are proactive, but the people need to feed us with timely info to arrest the trend,”
In the meantime, Dr. Michael Tidi, the immediate past chairman of Delta State’s Warri South Local Government District, has condemned the senseless cult killings going on in the council area.
In response to the killings on Wednesday, Tidi, who made this condemnation in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri on Thursday, called on all community leaders and stakeholders to provide security agencies with voluntary information on the location of criminal elements in their communities as a matter of urgency in order to apprehend them.
“This cult killings are getting too much. On Monday somebody was killed in Merogun. This evening one person was shot at Ekurede Itsekiri community. I was told he was the Secretary of the youth leadership of that community. Again, about forty minutes ago, three persons were gunned down at Egbokodo axis in Ubeji, in Warri South,” he said.
I would like to call on community leaders and all stakeholders to provide the security services with voluntary information about these offenders in their community. These evil eggs should be out of their neighborhoods because the police and the army are not ghosts. Since they do not live in these neighborhoods, they need the data to be able to do their job.
When incidents like this happen, communities should not be too fast to criticize government and law enforcement officials. By volunteering information to security officers, they should set their goals straight and support themselves.
I would also like to get all the well-meaning Waferians together to denounce these acts. The unavailability of work can not be used by anyone as an excuse to commit these heinous crimes. It should be criminally condemned in the strongest terms.
In fact, today’s government, led by Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has put in place so many skills training programs for our young people. I still have an amnesty policy that young people can take advantage of in order to go to school. How many of these youth are benefiting from the State Government’s Move and YAGEP programs.
For example, revenue committees are set up every year by local councils. Before momentarily standing back, I just did mine. How many of these young people have come forward to take up these positions?
Therefore, no economic motives can be put forward for these killings. Cultism is immoral and everybody, including our spiritual leaders, should reject it. In preaching against this threat, the church should not yield.
