We stand with Ayu – Ogun PDP disown Makinde
Members of the Ogun PDP said that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was wrong when he said that everyone in the Southwest had called for Ayu to step down.
At the Southwest Stakeholders Interactive Session with PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in Ibadan on Wednesday, Makinde was said to have made this claim.
Akinloye Bankole, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Ogun State, said in a statement that was given to Ejes Gist Newspaper on Friday.
“The leaders disassociate the Ogun State chapter of the party from Governor Seyi Makinde’s statement and affirm that there was neither a meeting nor an agreement before such a statement.”
Ogun PDP speaks on Calls for Ayu’s Resignation
Bankole says that the leaders think the current call for Ayu to step down “is bad timing and dangerous for the party’s health, especially as political mobilisation and campaigns for the 2023 general elections build up across the country.”
He said, “Ogun PDP insists strongly that the sacredness of the party constitution cannot be sacrificed on the altar of the whims and caprices of a few.”
Bankole said that the party, at this important time in its democratic history, needs to be fully focused on its goal of saving the country and putting it back on the path to prosperity and riches.
He said that, for the good of everyone, all kinds of distractions should be thrown away.
The spokesman also said that the Ogun PDP leadership is fully behind Atiku and his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, in their bid for the presidency.
