The long-awaited Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 is expected to be signed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday.
According to reliable presidential sources, the President will sign the bill into law around 12 p.m. on that day.

On Jan. 31, the National Assembly sent the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 to the president for the second time, after reportedly revising the bill, which he had previously refused to sign for a variety of reasons.
According to sources close to the President’s office, plans have been finalized for the President to sign the amendment bill into law on Friday, putting all fears to rest.

“All these worries will vanish by Friday afternoon,” said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
“Around noon on that day, he’ll sign the bill.”
“I believe he has taken his time to ensure that the Act is as impregnable as possible.”

In November 2021, the President withheld his assent to the bill, citing the cost of holding direct primary elections as well as security concerns as reasons for his decision.
