Obiano transferred to Abuja
Willie Obiano, the immediate-past governor of Anambra State, has not been released from jail, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission but has been transferred to Abuja.
The EFCC’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, told our correspondent in an exclusive interview that Obiano was brought to Abuja on Friday morning.
The EFCC detained Obiano on Thursday night, hours after he was handed over to Chukwuma Soludo, the new governor of Anambra.

On Friday morning, however, news surfaced that Obiano had been released from the EFCC’s custody.
The EFCC PRO, however, told EjesGist Newspaper over the phone that the stories were incorrect and that the ex-governor was still with the agency.
“He’s still with the commission,” says the source. This morning, he was even relocated from Lagos to Abuja,” Uwujaren stated.
Uwujaren, on the other hand, did not say whether the ex-governor and his wife, Ebelechukwu, were arrested together.
Obiano was hauled up by EFCC operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 8:30 p.m., according to EjesGist Newspaper.
Obiano transferred to Abuja
The ex-governor was apprehended while attempting to board a flight to the United States. He had been on the EFCC’s watch list since November 15, 2021.
The arrest came just hours after his wife was allegedly slapped by Bianca, the widow of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, at Soludo’s inauguration as the state’s governor.
Obiano was detained for allegedly mismanaging the N17 billion Paris Club refund and security vote, according to reports.
He’s also being investigated for a number of shady projects, including the exaggerated cost of the Umueri International Airport.
