Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has denied reports that he supported Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate as against Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate.
In a statement released by Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki’s special adviser to the governor of Edo State on media projects, referred to rumours that he had abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar for Obi as being completely false and malicious.
According to the statement, the false story making rounds in the media, is being spread by opponents with hidden agendas who want to deceive and misinform the public for their own gain.
“The news report in a section of the media claiming that Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has endorsed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is blatantly false and malicious, according to Osagie.
There was no such statement made by the governor.
“The story is being spread by opponents with hidden agendas who want to mislead and misinform the public for their own gain.”
The governor’s aide added, “Governor Obaseki has been at the forefront of the campaign for our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, since the beginning of the electioneering cycle.
“The public is hereby warned to be on the lookout for antics of quacks and unprofessional media organisations as well as unscrupulous people, seeking to misinform and stir confusion with their outright fake news,” the statement reads.

He continued, “Obaseki, as the PDP’s leader in Edo State, will use his enormous support network to ensure the victory of our party and its candidates in the upcoming general elections in 2023.
