Officers of the NSCDC Have Arrest a Pregnant woman, 2 minors involved in illegal Oil Bunkering

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC have arrested a pregnant woman, two minors, and eight other suspects in Ondo state for their alleged involvement in illegal oil bunkering.

Hammed Abodunrin, the state Commandant of the Corps, parading the suspects in Akure, the State capital, said that they were arrested at Waterway in Iju-Osun, which is located in the Irele council area of the state with products that are suspected to be adulterated diesel. Akure is the capital of the state.

“The product was packed in drums, polythene bags, and jerrycans, and loaded into four wooden boats,” he said.

“The suspects were apprehended in the act of transporting the petroleum products to a location that was not specified.”

They were apprehended in the midst of their deed. It is unfortunate that some individuals have persisted to undermine the functioning of the government, and he went on to say that this behaviour will not be tolerated.

Due to the fact that one of them is a pregnant woman in her late stages of pregnancy and the other two are underage, we have made the decision not to take them into custody.

He stated, “We have taken their statements, and whenever we need them, we will pick them up.

Additionally, we are going to conduct an investigation immediately, and we are going to take them to court as soon as we finish our investigation.”

Abodunrin reported that the individuals under suspicion were unable to disclose where they obtained the shipment or where they planned to deliver it.

He issued a warning to those who committed crimes to stay away from the state because the corps was intent on pursuing, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible.

In his words, “it is a renewed fight against oil theft, against economic sabotage, and also a renewed fight to ensure that citizens can be certain of what their country can give them.”

He stated that the individuals under suspicion would be brought before the court in order to act as a deterrent to other individuals.

One of the boat drivers mentioned in an interview that he was detained with twenty drums of kerosene when they found him.

I had no idea that it was against the law, and I believed that kerosene was something that individuals could legally buy and sell.

According to him, “I am not the one that really owns the product, I was driving an engine boat for someone else.”
