Northern Nigeria PDP youths stage ‘Ayu-must-go’ protest in Katsina
Ejes Gist Newspaper reports that on Sunday, a coalition of youths from Northern Nigeria who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) invaded Katsina State and demanded that Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, immediately quit.
Ayu’s resignation as party chairman was demanded by the youths who gathered at Katsina City’s entrance.
They were seen carrying placards that read, among other things, “Ayu Must Resign,” “PDP is Not a Private Company,” and “We are for justice and fairness.”
Shehu Isa Dan’Inna, the youths’ leader, urged the journalists in attendance to follow the path of honour by keeping his vow to retire should a northerner become the party’s standard-bearer for president.
As a gentleman and a responsible individual, we are requesting that Mr. Ayu quit and cease referring to himself as the PDP national chairman in accordance with his pledge to do so as soon as the presidential flag-bearer emerged from the north.
Ayu has still not left the secretariat despite the passage of over six months. We are staging this demonstration as a result.
