Northern Igbos Speak on Endorsing Tinubu for 2023
Igbos in the 19 Northern States and Abuja have said that the rumour that they endorse Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the election next year is not true.
In a joint statement signed by the organization’s president and secretary generals, Chi Nwogu and Austin Oforkansi respectfully stated that the organisation has never held a meeting on the subject.

The copy of the press release titled “Igbo leaders in the North have not yet endorsed a presidential candidate for the 2023 elections” that was provided to our reporter condemned the antics of opponents.
According to the document, “it has come to our attention that Igbo unions in 19 northern states and Abuja have endorsed the candidature of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in 2023.”

“We Igbos in the 19 northern states and Abuja under the auspices of the Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) are equally dismayed by the actions of another group of unidentified individuals claiming to represent the unions,” the statement lamented.
Referring to a publication in a national newspaper (not The Guardian) in which he alleged that an impostor on the platform of Igbo Delegates Assembly (IDA) endorsed Tinubu, the statement read: “Let it be stated for the record that the town unions in the 19 Northern states under the umbrella of IDA have never met and resolved to endorse the candidate of any particular party for the 2023 presidential election.

When we do so, it will be a public forum following the ongoing consultation procedure.
“We Igbos in the 19 Northern States, Abuja, and all of our town unions advise politicians to be wary of impostors,” the statement reads.
“Politicians should be wary of political jobbers with no political value,” it warned, urging: “we however call on our kin, the Igbos in the North to come out en masse and participate in the electoral exercise to contribute in the collective decision to elect leaders in the 2023 elections and at the same time remain law abiding and conduct their business following the laws of their respective states of residence.”
