Its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Robinson, said in a press statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday that it should be unthinkable for the North to consider clinging to the presidential seat at the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s two tenures of eight years which will end in 2023.

According to Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed, the NEF’s Director of Publicity and Advocacy, and other groups may not have been listening to the north when it stated that it would not be threatened or intimidated by any group or region.

“The reality is that, regardless of what or any other group says, the fundamental right of every citizen to choose his or her candidate, as well as the rights of all political parties to choose candidates, must be respected.

Politicians should fill the void created by this legal provision and the demands of managing a plural and diverse nation by carrying out the necessary serious work.”

“The north is willing to sit down with anyone and discuss how these things can be accomplished, but we cannot achieve anything through threats, and we have stated this repeatedly: don’t threaten the north, we will not be intimidated; there is a way to accomplish this; it is what the law requires, and it is what the political process requires.” And when you continue to use this kind of language, it simply pollutes the atmosphere,” he explained.

He advised and other organisations to insist on the appointment of a competent Nigerian who would lead an inclusive administration that would include everyone in the decision-making process.
