The Indigenous People of Biafra, also known as IPOB, has fired Simon Ekpa, a presenter for Radio Biafra who is stationed in Finland.
On Wednesday, July 21, the secessionist organisation provided an explanation as to why Simon Ekpa will no longer be able to broadcast on Radio Biafra in the future.
It was revealed by the IPOB that Ekpa has refused to observe the norms of operation of Radio Biafra, and as a result, his services have been terminated by the station.
Ekpa was hired as one of the radio broadcasters for Radio Biafra immediately after Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, was detained.
However, the group asserted that Ekpa’s services may no longer be required because he has refused to sign the terms of engagement and code of conduct that govern individuals who broadcast on Radio Biafra, according to the group.
“The global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has observed with regrets that Mazi Simon Ekpa, to whom our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu assigned the appointment and duty of starting broadcasting on Radio Biafra, does not wish to adhere to the rules of operation of Radio Biafra as laid down by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Despite the fact that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu issued the command while in captivity, our leader Mazi Simon Ekpa has failed to abide by the principles.

“Mazi Simon Ekpa has refused to sign the rules of engagement and code of conduct that govern individuals who broadcast on Radio Biafra,” the statement reads. Why Mazi Ekpa would not want to follow in the footsteps of the other broadcasters on the platform who have already done what is necessary is beyond our comprehension.
IPOB is a large movement, and it is not possible to just change the rules because of one individual, as this would set a dangerous precedent. Mazi Simon Ekpa is a hardworking Biafran whose immense contributions to the restoration of Biafra are greatly appreciated. However, because he did not sign the code of conduct as a broadcaster on Radio Biafra, he may not be able to continue broadcasting on the platform in the foreseeable future.
“This judgement was not made with the intent of ridiculing or undermining anyone, but rather to demonstrate to the world that due process cannot be compromised in the IPOB. IPOB is a well-organized movement in which the activities of its members are governed by regulations that have been carefully considered. Any action that suggests that the laws are only intended for a specific set of individuals should be avoided..
“While Mazi Simon Ekpa retains the freedom to broadcast his messages on Facebook and other social media platforms of his choosing, he is no longer permitted to broadcast on Radio Biafra as one of the organization’s official broadcasters.”
