NLC to resume indefinite strike in Abia, Tuesday
The Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, had abandoned plans to resume the indefinite strike it suspended in the state two months ago.
According to the NLC, the new strike would begin at 12:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023.

In a statement signed by Emma Alozie, secretary of the NLC in Abia, the labour union announced that it was resuming its indefinite strike, which had been suspended earlier in the year.
The NLC stated that labour leaders unanimously approved the new strike at the conclusion of their meeting last week.
He ordered all industrial unions, including those in local government areas, to cease providing services to the Abia State government as of midnight on Monday, May 8, and to mobilise their members for an indefinite strike.
In part, the statement reads: “To all industrial unions. Continued indefinite strike.
At its meeting on Friday, 5th May 2023, the State Executive Council, SEC, of Congress unanimously voted to resume the suspended indefinite strike action, after deliberating carefully on the multitude of problems Abia workers and pensioners face at the hands of the Abia State government.

“As a result of the foregoing, all Abia workers, including those in the local government areas, are ordered to withdraw their services from the Abia State government and remain at home beginning at 12:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023.
“In a similar vein, all chairpersons and secretaries of all affiliated unions must educate and mobilise their members to ensure full compliance,” the NLC stated.
