Air Peace boss, Allen Onyema laments rising forex, as dollar hits N616.

Allen Onyema, Vice Chairman of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and founder of Air Peace, the rise in foreign exchange is threatening the continuation of aviation operations in Nigeria.


The businessman explained that the strengthening of the dollar against the naira had made the purchase of aviation fuel prohibitively expensive for airline operators, potentially forcing them to close their doors.


Onyeama made this statement at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s (FAAN) National Aviation Conference (FNAC) on Wednesday, where he discussed the challenges facing the Nigerian aviation industry in the face of rising global oil prices.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Igbo apex socio-political organization, threatened yesterday to punish the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for failing to include the Southeast in the selection of Atiku Abubakar’s running mate. Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, issued the threat in a statement.

On Thursday, the Benue State Police Command announced the arrest of four suspects in connection with the recent attack and killing of some residents in Okpokwu. Suspected herders attacked Igama community in the state’s Okpokwu LGA, killing over 30 people and setting fire to several homes.

The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has condemned Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka, a Catholic priest and the founder of Adoration Ministry Enugu, for making inflammatory political remarks against Peter Obi. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu, Rev Ernest Obodo, condemned and distanced the church from the comments.

On Saturday, a vehicle carrying the deputy governor’s children was involved in an accident on the Maiduguri-Kano highway.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has named Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as Atiku Abubakar Running Mate. The party’s presidential candidate, Atiku made the announcement at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

Operation Yaki, a joint operation between the Special Tactical Squad and the Kaduna State security outfit, has killed four suspected bandits on the Saminaka-Jos expressway. Mohammed Jalige, the spokesman for the Kaduna Police Command, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.
