According to one of the Chiefs who testified before the court, “on that day, we were at the palace for an Onise in Council meeting. Around 7 a.m., before the meeting began, Omoniyi entered the palace and sat in Kabiyesi’s seat, but the Chiefs frowned and drove him away.

“Immediately following the meeting, late Onise and his male clerk were attacked as they walked back to the main palace.

“After stabbing the victim with a knife, Omoniyi began posing as the town’s king.”

Adegboyega Morakinyo, the state counsel, called five witnesses and presented a medical report, the convict’s statements, and a knife as exhibits to prove his case.

The convict testified in his own defence via counsel Tope Salami and did not call any witnesses.
