Ogun, Sokoto, Delta, and others faces Party crises

A number of the states that the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party currently govern are experiencing internal strife and allegations of imposition, which are making it increasingly unlikely that either party will continue to hold power in those states beyond 2023.

Some of the aggrieved party members in the affected states, which include Ogun, Sokoto, Delta, Plateau, and Rivers, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the results of their party’s primary elections.

In some instances, there was a rift between some party leaders and the incumbents, such as in Ogun, and in some others, there was alleged imposition by the incumbent during the primary, which had been brewing disquiet among the members. 1) The Nigerian Police force has dismissed another police officer, Corporal Opeyemi Kadiri for Searching a commuters phone,  indiscipline and assault.

Opeyemi with Force No. 509745 was a Corporal of the force attached to Dolphin Divisional headquarter, Lagos command.

2) Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Friday downplayed the National Assembly’s (NASS) threat to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming they lacked the courage to do so.

Recently, opposition lawmakers reaffirmed their intention to impeach President Buhari if he does not end the country’s ongoing insecurity within six weeks.

However, Wike stated during his speech at the Rivers legislative quarters’ opening that the threat made by a “significant” portion of the National Assembly is unfounded.

3) In a meeting with victims’ representatives on Thursday in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari assured them that the Federal Government was taking all necessary steps to ensure the safe return of the remaining abducted passengers.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and those who lost loved ones.

He said that since the “terrible and cowardly attack by the criminal elements” on March 28, 2022, the nation had suffered along with them.

4) Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, turned down plans to join the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).


He also turned down offers to work for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate in the general elections of 2023.

A significant Wike associate told Newsmen that while the governor has made it clear that he will not back PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, he has also made it clear that he will not work with the APC due to their selection of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

5) Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for presidency in the 2023 election, named Professor Charles Okigbo as his campaign spokesperson on Friday.

Jack Obinyan, a leading supporter for the Obi-Datti Baba-Ahmed ticket, announced this development on his verified Facebook page.

Professor Okigbo is an emeritus professor of strategic communication at North Dakota State University (USA), where he studies how elections are covered by the media, how higher education institutions can raise money strategically, and how to develop leaders and effect social change.

6) Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has denied filing a fictitious lawsuit in an effort to have Atiku Abubakar removed as the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for president in the general election of next year.


This comes shortly after some media outlets falsely claimed that Wike had ordered the removal of PDP flags from the Rivers State government building.

The governor denied knowing anything about the alleged lawsuit or even knowing the attorneys who initially filed it.

7) Kingsley Moghalu, a candidate for president in the general elections of 2019 and a potential candidate for the election of 2023, said on Friday that “Peter Obi’s candidacy is a welcome development.”

On Thursday morning, both men got together at the home of the former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and “discussed the state of the nation.”

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, has a sizable following on social media, particularly among young people.

8) Rotimi Amaechi’s former transportation minister’s longtime ally Chris Finebone has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the early hours of Friday, Finebone, who had served as the APC’s publicity secretary for years, announced his departure to newsmen.

He didn’t provide any explanation for his defection, though. Similanayi Fubara, a PDP governorship candidate, is my brother; know it and know peace, Finebone wrote on his verified Twitter account.

9) The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah, has condemned the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Bishop Kukah called the ticket hedonism and intolerance.


The Catholic Bishop told Newsmen on Thursday that the ticket was a setback to the country’s national integration.

10) Manchester United top striker, Marcus Rashford, has decided to rule out the possibility of leaving the team this summer to sign with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Marcus Rashford is a player that PSG is very interested in acquiring from Man United this summer.

The English international, whose representatives have held discussions with the French Ligue 1 champions, wants to play at Parc des Princes.
