Dwayne Haskins, NFL star, 24, dies after being hit by a car in Florida

Dwayne Haskins, the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and a former Ohio State standout, was killed after being struck by a car.

Haskins, who was slated to turn 25 next month, was practising with his squad in South Florida when he was killed in a car accident early Saturday morning, according to his agent, Cedric Saunders.

Head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers confirmed Haskins’ death and expressed his sympathy to Haskins’ family.

‘With the untimely passing of Dwayne Haskins, I am devastated and at a lost for words,’ Tomlin said in a statement revealing his death. ‘Upon his arrival in Pittsburgh, he soon became a member of our Steelers family and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community.’

‘During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family.’

In a tweet, Washington Commanders team president Jason Wright said, “Dwayne was a young man of great intellect who cared deeply about his loved ones & the world,” “As we mourn the death of the man and the influence he was poised to have on society with his unique abilities, we pray for his wife, parents, and all who knew him. May the bitterness of dying be softened by grace.”

The former Ohio State standout joined Washington after being taken 15th overall in the NFL Draft in 2019. Before being released in December 2020, he started 13 games for the club over two seasons. A month later, Haskins signed with the Steelers.
