1 Suspected herdsmen, Tuesday morning attacked Ayar Mbalom village in Gwer East local Area of Benue State, killing 19 persons and burning down over 35 houses. Among those killed were Rev Fathers Gor Joseph, Felix and many others.

  1. In another similar attack, no fewer than 35 persons were killed and several other still missing after suspected herdsmen attacked Tse Umenger in Mbadwem Council Ward of Guma LGA, Benue State.

Report had it that the heavily armed men, numbering over 50, stormed the village on Tuesday around 7pm and set the entire village on fire.

  1. The face-off between the Police and the Senator Dino Melaye, took a dramatic turn, yesterday, as the lawmaker escaped from the police while being taken to Lokoja and landed in the hospital with injuries.

Meleaye was said to have jumped out of the vehicle of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, conveying him to the Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force where he sustained injuries in the process and was taken to Zanklin Hospital in Abuja for medication.

  1. The Nigerian Police has insisted that they would dock Senator Dino Melaye ‘without any delay’, after re-arresting him from an Abuja hospital.

In a statement on Tuesday night, Police confirmed an earlier report that Melaye, escaped from lawful custody when ‘miscreants and hoodlums’ blocked a police vehicle conveying him to Lokoja to face trial.

Dr Abiola Akinyode-Afolabi, the defence counsel for Miss Monica Osagie, the alleged victim in the sex-for-marks scandal at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, said on Tuesday that her client affirmed before an investigative panel that Prof. Richard Akindele deliberately failed her because she refused his sexual demand.

She quoted Osagie as informing the panel that she reported the sexual harassment by the don to some lecturers in the university, adding that no action was taken by them.

  1. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointments of Ambassador Apollonius Demenongu Agev and Kio Solomon Benibo Amieyeofori as Deputy Directors-General (DDGs) at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

This was made known Tuesday night via a statement by Olusegun Adekunle, the Permanent Secretary (General Services) in the office of the Secretary to the of the Federation.

Mr. Adekunle added that the appointments are in fulfillment of Para. 4 (1) & (2) of the relevant Instrument establishing the NIA.

  1. President Muhammadu Buhari, Tuesday night approved the appointment of two new Medical Directors and the re-appointment of four others across six Federal Medical Centres.

According to the President, the newly appointed medical directors and centres are: Dr. Liasu Adeagbo Ahmed, Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Owo, OndoState. Dr. Abudulkareem Jika Yusuf- Medical Director, Federal Neuro- Psychiatric Hospital, Kaduna State.

  1. The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, is set to take major action following the recent violent nature of herdsmen.

The body said it would review regional regulations to address frequent clashes between herders and farmers.

  1. The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday banned members who had spent eight years as ward, council and state executive members from seeking re-election in its May congresses.

The National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who announced the ban in Ikeja, Lagos while addressing party members at a stakeholders’ meeting, said the decision was to allow fresh set of people occupy party offices with a view to taking the APC to the next level in the state.

  1. The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday appealed to Nigerians to pray for him and his principal.

He said the prayer was needed so those in government could overcome numerous challenges facing the nation.
