Meanwhile, according to information provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria was able to bring in a total of $1.47 billion in capital during the first half of 2022.
According to the Central Bank of Nigeria, the capital inflows that the Nigerian banking industry received in the first half of 2022 totaled $1.47 billion. This represents a 109.8% increase when compared to the $698.2 million that was received in the second half of the previous year.
The amount that was brought in during the first half of 2022 was also 46.5% higher than the billion dollars that was brought in during the first half of 2021 during the same time period.
According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), during the period under review, the banking sector recorded the highest foreign inflow compared to other sectors in the Nigerian economy. This sector was responsible for 47.1% of the total inflows into the country.
Next in line was the manufacturing industry, which brought in $457.7 million, followed by the financing industry with $396.7 million.
According to a breakdown of CBN data, the majority of the capital that entered the country during the first half of 2022 came in the form of foreign portfolio investments (FPI), which totaled $1.71 billion and accounted for 55.2% of the total capital that was recorded during the review period.
Money market instruments accounted for approximately 33.4% of the total fund and were valued at $1.04 billion. These instruments could include mutual funds, treasury bills, and commercial papers, amongst others.
35.1% of the total inflows, or $1.09 billion, was accounted for by “Others,” which included loans, currency deposits, trade credits, and other claims. Despite this, it is still less than the $1.59 billion that was recorded in the second half of 2021.
