Moses Armstrong, a Nollywood actor, has been charged with rape, intimidation, conspiracy, and supplying drugs or instruments to obtain an abortion.

Armstrong, a former aide to Governor Udom Emmanuel, was arrested last month on suspicion of raping a minor whom he had adopted.

On Wednesday, August 10, the four charges were read to Armstrong in a State High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

He was reportedly granted bail after pleading not guilty to the charges.

His counsel, Emmanuel Pantaleon, drew the court’s attention to his client’s bail application, which he filed on July 25, and asked for permission to proceed with it.

While opposing the bail application, the prosecution’s I.U. Robert, an assistant state counsel, cited relevant judicial authorities and urged the court to dismiss the application, which he described as a “abuse of court process.”

After hearing submissions from both counsels, the Judge, Ntong Ntong, upheld the defence counsel’s application and granted bail to Mr Armstrong in the amount of N5 million.

Until his arrest, Armstrong worked as a Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State .
