Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has declared April 2nd to be the first day of Ramadan.


On Friday evening, the Ramadan crescent moon was seen in multiple locations across Nigeria, signalling the start of Ramadan fasting.

Ramadan 2022 in Nigeria will begin in the evening of Saturday, 2 April  and ends in the evening of Monday, 2 May.

The Sultan stated in a live broadcast on Friday evening, which was broadcast by The Nation, that fasting begins on Saturday in accordance with Sharia.


The new moon has been sighted in Sokoto, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, and Plateau, according to reports he has received.
