Moment newly acquired Ujevwu-Itakpe Train Caught Fire in Delta [Video]

Train Station Fire update 

One of the newly procured standard gauge train coaches was on Tuesday evening gutted by fire.


Due to the lack of fire extinguishers on board the train coaches, Nigerian Railway Workers (NRC) were battling the blaze with leaves, blankets, and other objects, as seen in the viral video.

This is one of the trains that the Nigerian government borrowed a lot of money to buy.



A staff member of the Nigerian Railways Commission (NRC) told the exclusively on Wednesday morning that the cause of the fire is still unknown.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it has been put out. It’s one of the new trains that runs between Ujevwu and Itakpe on a regular basis,” the staff exclusively told .



When asked why NRC employees were seen in a video battling the fire with leaves and blankets rather than a fire extinguisher.  The staff stated that most train coaches do not have fire extinguishers installed.

“The majority of train coaches lack fire extinguishers.  The workers used what they had at the time of the incident and were able to put out the fire.

Large portion of the coach damaged,” the staff added.

Is Train Station and not Warri-Itakpe Train Station. Reason: the train station is located at Ujevwu, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
