Kingsley Moghalu, a presidential candidate in 2019 and a presidential aspirant in 2023, stated on Friday that the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is a “political calculation” and not a declaration of religious war.
Moghalu stated via his verified Twitter account that he is not surprised by the controversy surrounding the issue.
“As I recently stated on @ARISEtv in response to a question, the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket was more of a political calculation than a declaration of “religious war.”
“Given the sensitivity of religion in Nigeria today, it should not come as a surprise that it has sparked a storm,” the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said.
It will be evaluated at the ballot box. MKO Abiola won the 1993 presidential election on a Muslim-Muslim ticket in a Nigeria that is hardly comparable to the Nigeria of today.
How time has changed things! In 1979, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Prof. Ishaya Audu ran for president on a Christian-Christian ticket.
