Ministry opens up on ‘spending N18.9 billion to clear bush’

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development spent has broken silence on Using N18.9 billion to clear bush during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.

The Federal Ministry Stated refuted the allegations giving it’s explanations.

The ministry said that the remark, which came from the House Public Account Committee, must have been taken out of context in a news release released on Wednesday by its director of information, Joel Oruche.

According to the statement, the ministry only cleared brush and prepared land totaling 3,200 hectares in eight states; Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Cross River, Kaduna, Kwara, Plateau, and Ogun, using funds allotted by the state governments for N2.5 billion.

It also claimed that it had not received any audit queries that would have justified the Committee’s summoning.

The Ministry merely cleared brush and prepared land for 3,200 hectares in the eight states of Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Cross River, Kaduna, Kwara, Plateau, and Ogun, as provided by state governments for N2.5 billion, according to the statement.
