Scores die as Fulani, Hausa clash in Sokoto

 

In Sokoto state’s Gwadabawa community, there was tension as a result of a conflict between Fulani and Hausa residents.

 

It resulted in the deaths of numerous locals on both sides, as well as a security agent.

Aminu Gwadabawa, a local official, told VOA Hausa in an interview monitored by our correspondent on Saturday, “People in the area were living in fear because a soldier was killed in the conflict.

Survivors speak

According to a survivor, my relative was attacked with knives by Fulani. However, he possesses spiritual powers that prevent sharp objects from penetrating his skin.

Therefore, they intensified their assault on him and successfully severed his head from his body.

 

A Fulani man who survived the violent communal conflict described his ordeal in a similar fashion.

 

According to him, “I was shot at twice but managed to survive.” I begged them to spare my life. But they fired upon me.”

 

When the Sokoto police were contacted about the attack, they said they were still awaiting details.

 

During the conflict, a large number of people were reportedly killed and injured.

 

Recent attacks allegedly perpetrated by Fulani bandits were not uncommon in the area.
