Man sets estranged wife ablaze
Kuryanga, a middle-aged man, is accused of setting his estranged wife on fire while she was sleeping last Thursday in Guyuk town, Adamawa State’s Guyuk Local Government Area.
Kuryanga allegedly attacked and lit flames his estranged wife, Janet John, while sleeping on an ill-fated night, armed with Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as gasoline, and a box of matches.
“It was terrifying to wake up to a column of burning fire like a typical horror movie scene,” Noyina, Janet’s aunt who related the terrifying experience, told our reporter in Hausa. Hearing my niece scream for rescue as she burned in the flames was much more torturous.”

Kuryanga and John divorced three years ago, with a court order barring him from seeing her owing to his violent nature, according to Noyina.
“Despite Kuryanga’s marriage to another woman and the court ruling, he refused to let go of her, jealously threatening her life and the lives of her suitors,” she alleged.
When he finally struck, he was among the first to arrive at my niece’s hospital bedside the next day. He came close to getting away with it. Fortunately, his pregnant wife later confirmed the presence of an abandoned crime scene gasoline container among their things.

“In the dead of night, he tiptoed to her sleeping spot within our compound, poured petrol, struck the matches, and fled, leaving her in flames.” He got her because of the oppressive heat; we all slept outside.”
Kuryanga was detained when his wife revealed the wrongdoing, according to Noyina, who added that he confessed to the act and appealed for forgiveness.
