Who is An Ambassador

An ambassador is a high-ranking official who represents a country abroad on behalf of the of that country, particularly in matters of diplomacy. Currently, Nigeria has 47 ambassadors who represent her in various countries around the world.

The Responsibilities of Nigerian Ambassadors

The Ambassadors have specific responsibilities, such as taking charge of the embassies and working to represent and advance the foreign policy objectives of the Nigerian president and his administration in the countries with which Nigeria has diplomatic relations, among other things.

They also ensure the safety of embassy personnel and property, manage communications, hold bilateral discussions with the governing body of the host country, sign trade agreements, and provide protection for Nigerians living in foreign countries.

The Senate had received from President Muhammadu Buhari a letter requesting the confirmation of 42 career ambassadors-designate to be formally confirmed. It was read on the floor of the National Assembly by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.

The letter reads: “In accordance with section 171 (1), (2) (c) and subsection (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.” I have the honour of submitting to the Senate for confirmation the names of the forty-two (42) nominees listed below:
