On Monday, a presidential aide reported on Twitter that such individuals would be invited by anti-graft agencies to clarify the origins of their wealth and assets.

Lifestyle audit is now legal in Nigeria, according to Lauretta Onochie, the President’s social media aide. This means that Nigerians who flaunt wealth they can’t account for will be investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission.

On Monday, a presidential aide reported on Twitter that such individuals would be invited by anti-graft agencies to clarify the origins of their wealth and assets.

“Lifestyle Audit is now legal in Nigeria,” she wrote. Many who flaunt lifestyles they cannot afford will now be prosecuted by either of the anti-graft agencies in order to provide evidence of their wealth sources. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the EFCC Chairman, previously stated that the commission would begin requiring bankers’ asset declaration forms on June 1.

He stated that the decision was made in accordance with the Bank Employees Declaration of Asset Act.
