COVID-19 No-Interest Loan Isn’t Just For Muslims, Says NMFB

The Nirsal Microfinance Bank has clarified that the ongoing COVID-19 Non-Interest Loan for Nigerians who have been affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic is not a religious matter.

This was announced in a public statement on the bank’s Instagram account, in which the bank’s management stated that the scheme is open to all Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation.

However, an applicant for the Scheme must have been harmed by the COVID-19 Pandemic, be at least 18 years old, have a Bank Verification number, and have run their own business, according to the NMFB.

They went on to say that the Non-Interest Banking Window for TCF and AGSMEIS focuses on asset financing, whereas the COVID-19 Targeted Credit Facility Loan Scheme focuses on debt financing.

The President of APSAN, Comrade Aloys Akortsaha, commended the bank’s efforts in ensuring that Agribusiness dealers were empowered through intervention funds such as the Covid-19 Targeted Facility (TCF), AGSMEIS loan, and the Anchor Borrower’s Program, according to Nirsal Microfinance Bank’s official Instagram account.

“It is the first time in Nigerian history that a program or policy directly affects the grassroots without the influence of powers that be,” he says. He revealed that the loan scheme has benefited over 20,000 farmers so far.

Mr. Darlington Lawson praised the group for recognizing the intervention loan’s impact on the group’s members.

The National Microfinance Bank (NMFB) urges borrowers to begin repaying their loans.

Nirsal Microfinance Bank has urged beneficiaries to begin repaying their loans as soon as possible, claiming that the program is not a national cake.

Mr. Abubakar Abdulahi Kure, the Managing Director of Nirsal Microfinance Bank, stated that the Loan is necessary to assist those at the bottom of the economic ladder. The goal is to create jobs, as well as provide and create affordable and accessible loans and effectively grow the economy.

He also stated that many people believe this is a public fund. It has a negative reputation, which could jeopardize recovery efforts. Some consider it to be a national cake. There would be difficulties with recovery. Scammers are also present near the products. People are duped because they are desperate; demand exceeds supply, and the fund is limited.

He went on to urge those who owe money to begin repaying it in order to assist those whose applications have yet to be approved.
