How SSS blocked Sowore from meeting Nnamdi Kanu in detention
The State Security Service (SSS) on Thursday barred Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Alliance (AAC), from visiting the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Mr Kanu is being held in the SSS facility while awaiting trial in the Federal High Court in Abuja on terrorism and treasonable felony charges.
While the IPOB leader is expected to remain in detention until the court rules on his case, a court order allows any three people of his choosing to visit him daily.
On October 21, 2021, the court issued the above-mentioned order.
Mr Kanu’s solicitors, Ugochinyere Chambers, forwarded Mr Sowore’s name among the three people scheduled to see the IPOB leader in detention on Thursday in accordance with the order.
Chinwe Umeche, Mr Kanu’s counsel, and Odozie Anyanwu, an evangelist, are the other two names on the document requesting permission for the visit from the SSS Director General’s office.
Mr Sowore confirmed in a thirty-second video clip that he was denied access to the IPOB leader despite waiting for more than three hours.
“This is the DSS (now SSS) headquarters where I came to see Nnamdi Kanu and was denied access to him.” I waited for three hours, was invited by members of his legal team to come here, and they said they were closed despite the fact that we arrived on time at 2 p.m.
“There is nothing they can do about it, they have to free Kanu,” the AAC presidential candidate declared in the short video.
Nnamdi Kanu, a Biafra activist, is critically ill in DSS custody, according to his lawyer.
According to Newsone, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has revealed that his client has a gastrointestinal disorder.
According to this online news platform, the news of Nnamdi Kanu being critically ill in DSS custody was made public in a statement issued on Monday, September 19, 2022.
Barrister Ejiofor said in a statement on Monday that the development came after the secessionist leader had been experiencing persistent heartburn for months.
According to Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, the Department of State Services, DSS, has been acting contrary to the order of Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja that Kanu be given serious medical attention.
Nnamdi Kanu’s Judgment: Metuh calls for prayers
Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, has called on well-meaning Nigerians to pray fervently for God to intervene and grant Mazi Nnamdi Kanu freedom through the legal system.
Metuh, who was also the PDP’s National Vice-Chairman for the South East, demanded unconditional freedom for Nnamdi Kanu, emphasising that doing so would restore peace and normalcy to the region, with a multiplier positive effect on the entire country.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the former PDP Spokesperson also condemned the “maltreatment and systemic extortion” of South Easterners by unscrupulous operatives in security agencies and government establishments.
“In light of the deplorable security situation in the South-East, there is a need for unconditional freedom for Nnamdi Kanu to restore peace and normalcy to the region,” Metuh says. Peace in the southeast will have a ripple effect throughout the country.
“The truth is that many people are dissatisfied with the manner in which Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was kidnapped in a foreign country and brought to Nigeria in chains to face various charges.” “Many see Nnamdi Kanu as suffering for highlighting the plight of the Igbos in modern Nigeria,” he said.
Terrorism Charges: Kanu receives legal team in DSS custody
Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has met with his legal team in the custody of the Department of State Services and expressed hope that the terrorism charges against him will be thrown out by the Court of Appeal.
The legal team was led by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and another lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and was accompanied by some of the IPOB leader’s family members on a routine visit granted by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The purpose of the visit was to provide feedback to the detained Biafra nation agitator on the September 13 Court of Appeal proceedings, in which the legal team prayed the appellate court to dismiss the remaining seven charges of terrorism and treasonable felony brought against him by the Federal Government.
In a statement issued after the visit on Friday, Ejiofor said Kanu was in good spirits and confident that the Court of Appeal in Abuja would discharge and acquit him of the terrorism charges.
Kanu, according to him, used the visit to appeal to his followers, particularly the Umuchineke, to remain consistent, steadfast, unshaken, focused, and prayerful, with the hope that there must be light at the end of the tunnel.

According to a statement issued by Ejiofor on Monday, Kanu’s lawyers will be led by Mike Ozekhome, SAN.

THE Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, have declared September 13, 2022 as a sit-at-home day.
