He claimed that despite Muhammadu Buhari, a northern muslim of the same ancestry, being about to complete eight years in government, of the NNPP insisted on being the presidential flagbearer, which is why the merger failed.

He claimed that during coalition negotiations, he had asked the NNPP leadership if it was fair to field Kwankwaso, a person from the north, and that they had responded that there was nothing improper about doing so.

Okupe disclosed that LP is now considering a young running body of northern descent.

He insisted that because Obi’s support in the north is just about 20% while it is quite strong in the south, a young, energetic northerner must be chosen as a running partner.

He claimed that Kwankwaso was misusing the idea that age confers a leadership advantage in politics.

Kwankwaso, he continued, does not have the same level of national popularity as Obi.

“That doesn’t address the young people’s query.

He declared that the coalition between the LP and NNPP had been dead for four weeks.

Okupe claimed the NNPP was attempting to capitalize on Peter Obi’s popularity.
