As Ejes Gist Newspaper had previously reported, Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has named Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2023 general elections.
Who is Kashim Ibrahim Shettima?
On September 2, 1966, Kashim Ibrahim Shettima was born in Kenya. He was the former governor of Borno State and has been a serving Senator for Borno Central since 2019.

He entered the banking industry in 1993, working as head of the accounts unit for the (now-defunct) Commercial Bank of Africa Limited in Ikeja, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.
Shettima served there between 1993 and 1997. He joined the African International Bank Limited in 1997 as a Deputy Manager and advanced to the position of Manager in 2001. He transferred to the Zenith Bank in 2001 and is now the manager of Maiduguri’s main branch.
Prior to leaving the Zenith Bank in 2007 as a General Manager after being appointed Commissioner for Finance in Borno State, he rose through the ranks at the bank to Senior Manager/Branch Head, Assistant General Manager (AGM)/Zonal Head (North-East), and Deputy General Manager/Zonal Head (North-East).

Kashim Shettima Bio, Political Career.
He worked as a Commissioner in 5 Ministries from 2007 to 2011. Engineer Modu Fannami Gubio was chosen as a candidate for governor in the ANPP primaries in January 2011. Gubio was later killed by attackers, and in February 2011, Shettima won a second primary election. Shettima received 531,147 votes, while Muhammed Goni of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) received 450,140 votes, to win the election on April 26, 2011.
He served as Commissioner of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs in 2008, Commissioner of Education in 2009, Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources in 2010, and Commissioner of Health in 2011. From the Ministry of Health, he ran for governor in 2011 and won on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, which is no longer in existence. He was sworn in on May 29, 2011.
He was unquestionably selected as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, an umbrella group of Governors in the 19 States in northern Nigeria, after winning reelection in 2015 under the banner of the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
With an emphasis on fostering northern unity and restoring struggling industries belonging to northern States, he has so far been driving significant changes in the forum’s operations.
