Kano Businessman Killed After Ransom Payment

The businessman, also known as Magaji, was kidnapped along with five others on the highway en route to Buruku two weeks ago, but was later proven dead by his captors despite paying a ransom for their release.

Hussaini Sani, the deceased’s elder brother, confirmed his death to our correspondent on Friday, adding that the kidnappers had come back on Thursday wanting additional N20 million despite the businessman’s death.

“On their route to Buruku, nine of them were kidnapped along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road. They eventually released three of them, but kept the other six.

“After some time, we started negotiating with the families of the six people, and we eventually agreed to pay them all together, only to see five of them return.”

“When we inquired about our brother’s whereabouts, they confirmed that he had been killed by the abductors.” We called them (abductors) on the phone number they used for the negotiation, and they insisted that our brother was still alive, even demanding a new ransom before releasing him.

“When we insisted on hearing our brother’s voice before paying anything else, they told us he was really killed and that he was attempting to flee.” “However, his colleagues who were released claimed he was murdered on purpose,” Hussain continued.
