According to Sani, Obioma attributed the decrease in cases to the investigation being closely monitored by members of the governing board, management, and senior staff of the council.

“The National Examinations Council has announced the results of the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination for External Candidates,” according to the announcement.

“The Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Godswill Obioma, announced the results at the Council Headquarters in Minna on Thursday, revealing that a total of 41,459 candidates registered for the test, out of which 39,503 actually sat.

“A total of 26,277 candidates received five credits or higher, including English Language and Mathematics, while 34,014 candidates received five credits or higher regardless of English Language and Mathematics, according to Obioma.

“From the preparation stage to the publication of results, acceptable quality and excellence were upheld, according to the Registrar, who reiterated the council’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

“In the 2020 SSCE External, 6,465 cases of examination malpractice were registered, compared to 17,004 cases in 2019.”

“He stated that the lower level of malpractice was due to the investigation being closely monitored by members of the Governing Board, Management, and Senior Staff of the Council.

“In line with the Council’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice, four supervisors who were found guilty of aiding and abetting malpractice have been blacklisted and will no longer be involved in the conduct of NECO examinations,” the Registrar explained.

“Intimidation and many attempts to induce NECO officials, as well as aiding and abetting examination malpractice, have resulted in the deregistration of one examination centre in Ogun State.”

The results of 256,000 candidates who skipped some papers during the 2020 SSCE (Internal) due to #ENDSARS protests in some states and sat for those papers during the 2020 SSCE (External) will be published alongside those of the external candidates, according to Obioma.
