Just In : 4 Shot Dead As Gunmen Invade Funeral


On Saturday, gunmen opened fire on mourners at a funeral in Imande Abur village, Mbategh council ward, Benue State.

According to a statement signed by police spokesperson Anene Sewuese Catherine, five people were shot and brought to the hospital during the attack, but four of them died while receiving treatment.

“On the 13th November 2021 at approximately 0300 hours, information was received that a group of three (3) gunmen, identified by eyewitnesses as known persons within the Sankara area, invaded Imande Abur village, Mbategh council ward, and shot sporadically at mourners who were gathered at a funeral ceremony.

“Police squads from the surrounding region came quickly to the scene, but when the suspects saw the cops, they bolted.

“Five people were shot and rushed to the hospital for treatment, but four of them died while undergoing treatment.”

“The Command expresses its condolences to the victims’ families and assures them that justice will be served, as detectives are already on the lookout for the identified suspects.”
